I'm coming out, I want the world to know

My main hang up with this blog up until this point has been my feelings about personal privacy. Sure, I seem like a 'no holds barred' citizen of Web 2.0 on the surface. I have profiles on most of the big social networking sites; I freely let interviewers/HR managers know I blog; heck, I put my website on my personal business cards.

But secretly (or not so secretly, if you're my close friend), I avoid as much as possible exposing the intimate details of my life to prying eyes. Because of that, I've struggled internally with how much I should reveal here.

Nevertheless, as of this post, I'm letting my guard down a little further - for the sake of fulfilling my goal to be a support to other (aspiring) media mavens.

In the words of Diana Ross - the supreme diva before Beyonce was even a thought: "I'm coming out!" Get ready for posts much more colorful from me than you're use to ;- )

  1. Do you think that the nature of your blog posts are an advantage or disadvantage to you in the job market?

  2. I've only received positive reactions when I tell people in interviews that I blog. HR managers (in media industry environments) seem to eat that up. But the nature as an advantage or disadvantage? That's hard to say. At the very least it serves as proof that I'm really interested in the field I'm trying to enter. Plus, it gives the entire world a glimpse into my true personality that can't be gleaned from a 30 minute interview which I'm on my best behavior for - valuable info for hiring managers to know, that can set me apart (hopefully, positively) from other candidates.
