She shoots, she scores!

Cue the dramatic music. Pan to still shot of Tyra with two photos in her hands, looking solemn.

You, DeShaun Harris, are still in the running to become the Next Top (job title).

In my last post, I was freaking out about the impression a desperate email left on the hiring manager at a national magazine. Long story, short: I'd been counted out of an applicant pool because I wasn't a local candidate and I bypassed the chain of command to get to the decision maker. This morning, I received a phone call from the hiring manager to let me know that she'd really been moved by note and would allow me to interview regardless. (Score!)

So, what have I learned from this? Sometimes it pays to take a bold step to get what you want. You'll never know if you don't try. Plus, it's also good to patch up any hurt feelings you may have caused when everything is said and done. After writing the email to the hiring manager, I went back and thanked the gatekeeper for all her help as well. Afterall, she wasn't trying to exclude me for personal reasons; she was just doing her job in the most efficient manner possible - keeping the gate.

Now I just have to go in and blow them away with my interview. It's later this week. As always, wish me luck (and pray for me :o )
