Great news journalism junkies—I got the PR job!
Yes, yes, I begin my career as a PR assistant at 9 a.m. sharp tomorrow morning. I couldn’t help feeling all kinds of excited as I did some preliminary research about my first assignment today. My first evaluation of the job: It’s like doing all the research for a story, except I present the material in a slightly different format (I’ll be reporting to my boss of course, instead of actually writing a story). This could be comPLETEly wrong, but if it is I prefer not to know that I'm going to bungee jump from that bridge until I get there. There are a few press releases involved, which—I think—may be kind of tricky. But I think this is going to be MAJOR fun (spoken like a true dork).
Until now, I’ve been thinking about all of the differences between my past jobs and this new temporary gig. But I think what really counts is the work you put into it. Even though my resume is getting longer, I think I’ll always be that overly-eager, do-it-before-you-ask-me-to assistant/writer/editor that packs her briefcase like it’s the first day of school. And that’s okay with me.
