Corporate-Controlled Creativity: Good or Bad?

So, before I get started, I've got to make this clear (which, I'm sure you could've figured out on your own): I - in no way - claim to be an expert on stocks and trading. In fact, I'm not even a decently informed participant. (Being, currently, a college student from a middle-class background with no portfolio :o ).

However, I'm becoming more familiar with the way publically traded companies work each day and with each headline screaming the threat of "hostile takeover!". Usually, the warnings of Wall Street watchers don't concern me. I mean, U.S. Airways vs. Delta? I fly Airtran, it's cheaper and more student friendly. But when it comes to media and entertainment companies, I watch.
Here's some recent news stories. I'll have to discuss my views on this later.
Electronic Arts vs. Take-Two Interactive
Microsoft vs. Yahoo
